Defective gas cylinder regulators

A number of gas cylinder regulators on the market have worn plastic pins that stop gas from passing through, Enemalta said yesterday.

The corporation issued a statement following a number of complaints it has received.

Enemalta said it has, therefore, taken all necessary measures and informed the competent authorities to ensure that imported regulators are of a good quality.

Although the corporation doesn't import or sell regulators, it offers a 24-hours emergency service and accepts complaints on 7900 8892. The service is free but when personnel are sent to fix any faults, Enemalta charges €11.65.

For further information contact the Consumer Office at Enemalta on 8007 2224.

If Enemalta states that it has. informed the competent authorities to ensure that imported regulators are of a good quality', I think that it would be appropriate for Enemalta to inform the general public as well which regulators need to be avoided or rather investigated.

I, for one, have recently bought two regulators, which I have not started using yet, to adapt to the new gas cylinders' connection. But then how am I to know whether these might be defective or not.

For safety's sake Enemalta should not withold the Brand Name of the regulators that are considered defective. On the other hand, importers of these faulty regulators should be prepared to replace them without any obligation whatsoever.
