Update 2: Three injured in traffic accident

Video: Paul Spiteri Lucas

Three men were injured in a head on collision on the Rabat road just before 9 p.m. One is in a serious but not critical condition.

Sources said a red Peugeot 305 going in the direction of Ta’ Qali from Rabat appeared to have overtaken a grey Fiat Marea and crashed head-on into a white Toyota Yaris coming from the opposite direction.

The injured men were the Peugeot driver and the driver and passenger of the Toyota. They had to be taken out of the wreckage by the police and Civil Protection officers.

police should charge the driver of trying to kill other people, then one should see if there will be more attention from these drivers

i do hope that the maltese health services recover the cost of treating RTA (road traffic accident ) victims from the guilty party`s insurance company like they do in the uk, the guilty party then has to pay a higher premium the next time he insures his car, after all these accidents are becomming more frequent so why should the tax payer keep paying for their ignorance and selfish attitude`s on the roads, and should it be proved that the roads themselfs were to blame then the insurance companys counter claim their cost back from the local council responsible for that stretch of highway

....oh just to be clear, I was being sarcastic on my comments about whose to blame.....just so there is no confusion

A speedy recovery to the injured. With the frequency casuatlties due to road accidents on our roads, I wonder if it is only a matter of time that all residents of Malta are doomed to such tragic circumstances. That unless of coarse the government will take its finger out of its backside and start doing something about it because it's quite apparent it's never the driver's fault and it cannot be that they are to blame.

' Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' we all need to look at ourselves and ask ourselves serious questions about our own driving before we critiscise others .

So sorry to hear about such an accident. The speed cameras situated in Notabile Road Attard should be moved to this accident prone road. Overtaking in this part of raod is happening all the time. Were are the traffic police and wardens!! Hope that an immidiate action will be taken!!

Drivers overtaking in ridiculously dangerous situations seems to have become the norm. Any of you driving towards Bahar ic-caghaq between 7:30 and 08:00 a.m. are sure to have met with quite a few irresponsible drivers that seem to head directly on to you when they can hardly see due to the morning glare. I for one have been driven to swerve onto the bicycle lane to avoid a full on head on collision, after which I had to thank God that no cyclist was minding his own business riding alongside me! Wardens and local council please take note!!

The carnage on these roads, total area of these islands is that of the isle of wight .. is unbelievable.
Roads are improving, cars are getting faster, and there is still no enforcement of traffic rules.
The rules that are designed to prevent men women and children getting killed or maimed.
If the traffic police here are unable to do this, perhaps it is time to invite a task force from abroad.

I saw a very good warning on the back window of car which reads: "DRIVE TO ARRIVE ALIVE". If everybody heeds it there will be less accidents.

@David Mizzi

to whom are you referring to ??
Peter Korsten(on 8/2/10)
The people in the 305 were lucky that they 'only' crashed into a Yaris. Had it been a heavier vehicle, things would probably have been worse. Please note that the passenger cabin of the Yaris is intact, whereas that of the 305 has been deforned by the impact.

But overtaking on that road, no, it's not a good idea.

Personally I really believe that the only real problem on our roads are most drivers themselves, whilst no one is perfect and every one is prone to do mistakes. It is evident that most traffic accidents occur because most drivers abuse too much. Most are way over confident drivers because they think they know it all and unfortunately there is a lot of carelessness and recklessness thriving on our roads.
What I really can't understand is WHY do these drivers take huge risks, what is the purpose? To get to destination a few minutes before? Is it THAT important to be there in the least possible time all the time? Do these drivers even think that they can cause an accident and that they get hurt others or injure themselves?
It is time to start to take action and who ever is found responsible should pay the consequences, accidents will happen no matter what but certain accidents should be investigated thoroughly and if it is confirmed that these accidents are caused due to negligence stiffer fines should be imposed. Only this will guarantee that our roads get safer, if not we are doomed to keep reading these kind of news.

Sorry for all the people involved directly in the accident....
... but can anyone realise that Emergency crew spend too much time trying to co-ordinate the event ... when in these cases seconds do matter ?!
I don't mean rushing & making mistakes ... But these people must be trained to act QUICKLY & RESOLVE THE MATTER POSSIBLY IN MINUTES
Even journalists did make it to report live from the spot ! .... No need to hurry !!!

what is happening to maltese roads?!!!!! anarchy prevails!!!!!
and its not the speeding cars that are being nuisance..... today a guy in a bmw in a single lane road was driving at 15 km/h just to enjoy accumulate a heavy traffic behind him.
Its nonsense everywhere. no wonder all these accidents
Philip Sultana(on 7/2/10)
Maltese roads are too dangerous: the bad condition of the surfaces; lack of, or faded, road markings; bad signage; and the exceptionally bad driving of the Maltese, make driving in Malta difficult, unpleasant and potentially deadly.
clive borg(on 7/2/10)
How stupid and arrogant can persons be , overtaking a car in a main road, narrow, with a double line... and taking into consideration overtaking when the road was wet just minutes after rain..

Hope to get well soon for the ones that were driving and had to find themselves in these conditions.
