Michelle's turn in the spotlight
Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, was the featured speaker at the opening night of the party's nominating convention on Monday.
In front of a huge crowd waving "Michelle" signs, she said her husband represented typical American values, rejecting Republican charges that Obama is an aloof celebrity. Michelle Obama -who would be the first African-American first lady if her husband is elected on November 4--also put a gloss on her own assertive personality. She has drawn fire from Republicans for saying she only recently became proud of her country.
